A Return to Juried Art for All TRAG Shows

By Sue Woodworth, TRAG Co-President

When TRAG had its “Gallery and Gift shop” at Singer Hill Café, every new artist or artists with a new medium submitted their art to the “jury committee.”

As we move forward, we will have the jurying process in place for all art shows we present: Spring Fling, Oregon City Festival of the Arts and our Holiday show. All new artists applying to shows for the first time or any artist with new mediums they are wanting to sell will go through the jury process.

Our established jury committee is looking for artist vision, originality, creative intent, mastery of a skill and craftsmanship and is ready to present to the public. We critique with positive feedback and suggestions for additional learning needs.

2022 Holiday Show

By Lynda Orzen, Holiday Show Coordinator

The art show only had 28 artist this year with space for 10 more. Let’s hope we can fill it in 2023. This was our 15th annual event-yes 15! Our guild is going to be 16 in 2023! The Holiday Show is only open to members of the guild. The Oregon City News had a wonderful article with one of our artists on the front page! We shared advertising with several other events in the community along with a ½ page ad in the OC News. Over the years, the guild has donated over $7,000 to the Pioneer Community Center’s Meals on Wheels program!

Major kudos to Melody Bush for Facebook advertising, Ingrid Aubry for our postcards and posters – each year they just get better, Kerry Edwards, volunteer coordinator and my right-hand, Lynne Collum for name tags and booth signs and Yelena Shabrova who managed all the computer magic! Couldn’t have done this without good teamwork. Thank you for being so resourceful and fun to work with!

Wintering-in with Spiritual Intent (January 11th, 2023)

As we break into the new year, we may find ourselves uninspired in this dark, damp month. We’ll come together to explore creative ways we can bring sacred light into our lives. Taking a look at images of light, we’ll create our own with oil pastels, acrylics and ink. We’ll pause to meditate on bringing this glow inward and extending it outward into our communities and world.

Date: Wednesday January 11th   Time: 10am – 12pm

Leader: Denise Andersen Cost: $25 per personRegister through the Franciscan Spiritual Center. francisspctr.com

The class will be held at St. Catherine Hall on the former Marylhurst College campus.  3159 Furman Dr., Marylhurst, Oregon

And It’s Up! “Building Bridges”

By Trieste Andrews

A Community Interactive Art Piece from the Arch Bridge Celebration

The 3-piece mural that was created by three artists and our communities was installed in the Oregon City Library on Thursday November 10th. Thank you, Cathy Rowe from Oregon City (and a member of TRAG), Brian Krehbiel from the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, and Carrie Gilbert from West Linn. Their original designs were shared at the Arch Bridge Celebration on 4’ by 4” boards as they welcomed the Community to help them paint. At noon each of the 3 pieces were joined together in the middle of the bridge in celebration of our communities. The finished connected piece was placed right above the book return by the elevators and is an amazing piece depicting community connection. It will be in the OC Library for 4 months, then moved to the West Linn Library, and finally to the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Museum.

Kerry Edwards is Featured on Mozaik Underwater Cameras’ Website

One of the best ways to learn photography is to see other photographers’ work. Mozaik looks for some of the best underwater photographers in the world, and showcases their work and the gear they use to help other aspiring photographers improve, learn new skills and get inspired.

Last week they featured amazing work of our talented member, Kerry Edwards!

Hawksbill Turtle – Photo taken in Roatan, Honduras – a favorite dive location.

Peacock Flounder – This is a colorful species of Flounder. This fish was sitting atop a ledge and I floated up and caught him off guard.

Reflections of the Falls

By Lynda Orzen

On Saturday, October 29, Indigenous artist, Brian Krehbiel of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, signed the mural “Reflections of the Falls”. It tells the story of how Coyote and Meadowlark created the Willamette Falls. The mural is an interactive piece that can allow the viewer to be a part of the mural. The artist is supplying a canoe paddle so someone can go into the bookstore and look like they are paddling the canoe through the window.

Brian and several family members sang a song in remembrance of the Willamette Falls and how the falls has been an integral part of the Indigenous peoples of the Willamette Valley for thousands of years. The mural is located on the White Rabbit bookstore on the corner of Main Street and 99E.
