The SAGE Project, Storefront Art Galleries and Events. Taking It To the Streets!

On June 25th TRAG was awarded a grant from the City of Oregon City through the Metro Enhancement Program. The project is called The Storefront Art Gallery and Events project (SAGE) and will provide a way to bring much needed focus and exposure to Oregon City as well as a number of our small local businesses. The idea is to take the ugly brown paper coverings on the storefronts of vacant retail and commercial space and turn them into works of Art. TRAG is developing a plan now to reach out to painters, photographers, and 3D artists. All artists will be compensated for their work.

The second part of the SAGE project is to hold a total of 4 pop-up events over the next year inside a vacant commercial space. A local winery, brewery, or distillery would be invited to partner with the Artists to hold a community interactive event. The SAGE project would of course benefit Oregon City in that it could transform our streets into mini art exhibits bringing tourists and visitors. Additionally, however, it can also benefit a number of local businesses including: property managers, property owners, Artists, party event planners, local wineries breweries and distilleries.

A Call for Artists will be coming out shortly with detailed information.

Call for Artists! Oregon City Chamber of Commerce

Oregon City Chamber of Commerce
615 High Street Oregon City

The OC Chamber of Commerce moved into a new office the first week of June. It is located directly across from the Oregon City Elevator entrance on the second floor. The entrance off the street side is at 615 High Street in Oregon City. The Chamber has over 500 SF of blank wall space that they would like TRAG to decorate with local Art.

Both 2D artists and 3D artists are welcome to participate. Although TRAG will be invited to participate in the Chamber’s Grand Opening hopefully in July,

This Gallery will not be manned by Artists. Because of this, we are unable to offer jewelry or cards at this time. TRAG will follow the direction of Clackamas County Art Alliance’s local business galleries and offer the Art by direct contact with the Artist. TRAG will install the artwork for the Artists, but a placard will be displayed beside each art piece with Artist’s name and contact info.

Any potential sales will be negotiated directly between the Artist and the Buyer. Artists will receive 100% of the sales. All Artists will be asked to sign a Hold Harmless agreement that will protect both TRAG and the Chamber of Commerce from all liability.

Time is of the essence: since the Chamber would like to have the Artists’ work installed for their Grand Opening in July.  If you are interested in participating, please either call or text Holly Kroening as soon as possible. Thank you for your consideration and support!

Three Rivers Gallery & Gifts Update

On May 24th artists were given the opportunity to pick up their Art at the Gallery inside Singer Hill Cafe. Artists came in at 1/2 hour scheduled times, donning face masks to maintain social distancing, as Sue Woodworth and Holly Kroening helped gather their precious artwork. We are all asking “What next? When will we reopen? Is Singer Hill Cafe opening soon”? The owners of Singer Hill have wanted to sell the café business for quite some time. TRAG keeps in touch with them regularly, and we are delighted that potential new owners and creative business models are all being seriously considered. We are happy to report that all of these options always include the Three Rivers Artist Gallery. The tentative goal is to “possibly” have the Singer Hill Cafe and our TRAG gallery open the first of September 2020. Do we know that for sure – no, but let’s think positively! Be aware that we would need to be compliant with Covid-19 business restrictions and regulations. Our artists need to be thinking of how to display their art, manage their scheduled working time and being with the public. That is just a fact of this new environment we are in.

The TRAG gallery management will look a bit different as we plan to reopen.  After much consideration ~ I will continue as the Gallery Coordinator. My goal is to be transparent with the workings of the Gallery, and oversee it with a fun, knowledgeable and idea-generating volunteer group.  I am looking to create a new gallery committee where big jobs can be broken down into smaller more manageable tasks. Since Cheri Bosserman is graciously taking over all of TRAG’s financing duties, we will need someone to manage the online scheduling. Holly Kroening will continue to manage our wall art. We are grateful to Vona Adams-Lawrence who has been managing all of the Gallery’s supply needs. Additionally, we need someone to watch over, cultivate and organize each rotation of gallery artists.

We are currently discussing some exciting new options for the Gallery when we reopen. We will continue to evaluate the 2-month versus 3-month gallery rotations. I would like to have 1-2 people dedicated to mentoring new artists regarding paperwork and salesperson skills, as they learn to work in the gallery. We also welcome ideas on the entry look to the Gallery – Something that will catch a person’s eye as they walk into the main room of the café, and a plan to implement it. Under the new management we will also continue TRAG’s “new artist jury committee”. We had our first meeting prior to our new Covid life but will meet again. I strongly see meetings held as zoom conferences or a potential outdoor meeting where we can easily comply with 6-foot distancing regulations. Our health and the accompanying chain of contacts will be a major deciding factor as we “mindfully” carry on from here.

Does the idea of knowing more about the gallery, making our presence more notable in the community, and sharing and exploring new ideas interest you? I am eager to hear from you. You can contact me at gallerychair@threeriversartistguild.com I promise it will be fun and inspiring. There is nothing like art to bring a community together.

Taking it to the Streets! Preview of TRAG’s Potential “Storefront Art Galleries and Events”

On May 28th TRAG applied for a grant to bring artwork to the streets of Oregon City. The idea is to transform the brown paper that normally covers the storefronts of vacant space into works of Art. Artists will be compensated for their work. Additionally, the grant will include money to support 4 pop-up art events inside a vacant space to take place over the next year. Of course, TRAG will be following all the rules and regulations of social distancing as Oregon reopens. We will know if TRAG was awarded the grant money by the end of June.

If you are interested in participating in this exciting venture, please contact me at president@threeriversartistguild.com. I am looking for people that can brainstorm what kind of artwork we can offer, marketing the sites, participating with their art (all mediums will be considered), and volunteering for the artwork installation, take-down and events. I would like to hit the ground running if we are awarded the grant.

Keep your fingers crossed – and Thank you!

Kudos Korner – Ingrid Aubry

This month’s Kudos Korner contribution was given by multiple members of our Board:Ingrid joined the Oregon City Arts community in the late 1990’s and continued to work with the Oregon City Festival of the Arts after the commission was closed. In 2007 Ingrid Aubry was one of the founding members of the Guild, and she has never stopped contributing to the success of our organization.  Her contributions include the Three Rivers Artist Guild logo which has been an emblem of Art in Oregon City for almost 14 years. Ingrid has also always been TRAG’s go-to person for almost all of TRAG’s postcards, flyers newspaper ads and posters. Her offerings include graphics for the Oregon City Festival of the Arts, the Gallery, the community art events, and the Gallery Artists receptions – just to name a few.

As an artist in her own right, Ingrid excels in all forms of photography. Her favorite medium is photocollage mixing whimsy and vibrant colors into a unique creative piece. Look at Ingrid’s photocollage works of the OC Arch Bridge or the St John’s Bridge (highlighted on TRAG’s website in May) and you will immediately recognize it as Ingrid’s. Here is an artist who has indeed found her voice. Ingrid’s many accolades include the cover of the Around Town Chamber of Commerce magazine for 2020 and displays at both the Museum of the Oregon Territories and the End of the Oregon Trail Museum. In addition to Oregon City’s own local exhibitions, Ingrid currently has an image that was chosen by the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in LA. This in fact is the second time they chose one of her pieces! Go to Ingrid’s website to see more of her work at  ingridaubry.com .

Please give Ingrid a shout out for all her work and dedication for TRAG – we would not be where we are today without her!

TRAG announcement for June meeting

Welcome TRAG members!  In light of ongoing concerns with COVID-19 and out of consideration for our membership’s health and wellbeing, our June 8th meeting will be offered virtually via Zoom from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.  I am hoping you will join us, as this will be a meeting dedicated to you and hope you will find it a fulfilling way to connect with your fellow artists during this unprecedented time.

The theme of this meeting : “Artists In Residence !”

Our agenda for June 8, 2020:

  • 7:00pm to 7:30 pm – Board member reporting and information about the Guild, gallery, plans going forward for TRAG
  • 7:30 – 8:00 pm – Members sharing their art.  We invite each member to showcase and share a piece you have been working on during this “artist in residence” time.  As you show us your work, let us know what inspired you and a little about your process creating your piece.
  • 8:00 – 8:30 pm – Membership sharing – open forum.  We invite you to share your experiences, thoughts, and worries over the last few months sheltering in; how it has affected you; changed, perhaps the way you are doing your work.  Please consider limiting the time of sharing to within 5 minutes, so that all, who would like to participate will have an opportunity to do so.
  • Finally, think about what you would like to see for future meetings and how often you would like to meet virtually. Likely, this will be our new way of connecting with our members in the months to come d/t COVID-19 and the TRAG community’s desire to keep everyone safe.

I look forward to seeing you all there for this very special event.  Look for the link to the Zoom meeting in the upcoming emails.  I so appreciate you all; wishing you well and staying safe.
